What If I Am Denied?

Grand Rapids Attorneys Helping Those Denied Social Security Disability Benefits

Social Security Disability insurance is available to those disabled and meeting certain eligibility requirements.

Supplemental Security Income is a needs-based program for those with a disabling condition expected to last at least 12 months. It may take three to five months, or more, to get a decision. The vast majority of people applying for SSDI or SSI benefits are denied at first

The most important thing for you is to avoid being overwhelmed, and keep trying.

YOU NEED HELP!

We will take the burden off your shoulders. Do not delay after receiving your letter of denial. If you have been denied Social Security Disability (RSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, we must file an appeal within 60 days. If you fail to appeal in that time, you must start over. The vast majority of our clients—eventually—receive benefits.

Due to a tremendous application backlog, the appeals process can take a long time. But there are ways to expedite the process. If we believe the weight of the medical evidence makes your case clear and unequivocal we will request an on-the-record decision.

A "dire needs" hearing may be granted if you need benefits to pay for necessary utilities, or medical help, or are about to lose your home to foreclosure.

While a diagnosis of terminal cancer will be paid without question, other cases such as a failed back surgery or mental health issues such as bipolar disorder or depression are more difficult but definitely worth pursuing.

We recommend complete honesty and truth in your application and appeal. Any reason for suspicion may negatively affect the decisions about your case.
