Steve was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1956. He is married to Deborah and has two adult children - Kelsey and Nathan. Steve is a member of the LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church. He is actively involved in church activities. He has served as both an Elder and a Deacon. He has led three community development trips to Honduras where he and other participants have built Adobe stoves, constructed latrines, and dug water wells for two communities. Steve graduated from Calvin College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1978. He took many biology courses such as anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry. Steve then attended graduate school at the University of Wisconsin. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1980 with a Masters Degree in physiology. Steve then attended law school at Valparaiso University in Indiana. He graduated with honors in 1983. Steve specializes in personal injury cases. He represents those injured by the negligence of others in automobile collision cases, motorcycle accident cases, slip and fall incidents, and medical malpractice. He also handles many workers' compensation cases. One of the key issues in any personal injury case is the nature and extent of the injured person's injuries. This is a medical question. Steve's extensive education and experience in medical issues allows him to clearly understand the injuries and the ability to describe those injuries to a jury in easy-to-understand terms. Steve also has tried many cases over the last 20 years. He is not afraid to take a case to a jury. He has obtained jury awards for his clients in Kent County, Ottawa County, Clinton County, Berrian County, and Newaygo County.
